Graduating with an accounting degree, I joined a prestigious CPA firm, climbing the corporate ladder. The concept of tea resonated so deeply with Claudia and her daughters that they began dreaming of opening their own tea house. However, they needed to convince Allan, the father and husband, who initially had no interest in the idea. Reluctantly, he was dragged along and soon realized the merits and uniqueness of the tea concept.
Green Teas
As I reflect on the journey so far, I’m reminded of how essential it is to remain open to learning from others and to be receptive to change. Success in the family business isn’t solely about managing operations and making strategic decisions. It’s equally about nurturing a positive work culture, demonstrating empathy, and understanding the larger impact of my actions. Secondly, expressing gratitude and humility fosters stronger relationships. Recognizing and appreciating the efforts of my team, partners, and even competitors cultivates an environment of respect and collaboration.
Madagascar Vanilla
Top-grade high-mountain oolong tea from Formosa is delicately scented with osmanthus flowers to give it a highly coveted champagne aroma and deep, rich flavor. The addition of fragrant Jasmine flowers to green tea from China has been a tradition for thousands of years, and still creates an intoxicating yet delicate cup of tea. This tea is known for its aroma and subtle sweetness, lent from the rich Jasmine bouquet that has been infused. This antioxidant rich tea, high in Vitamin A, C and beta-carotene, is rosy and citrus is flavor, with many people saying it tastes closer to a tart lemonade, though its color is strikingly red. Often blended with other fruits and herbs, this pure hibiscus leaf tea makes for a nice break from the ordinary. Each individual tea leaf for our Gunpowder is rubbed, twisted and dried by stir-frying in a large pan, which gives it an undeniably toasty and subtly smoky character.
Flavored Black Teas

I am looking forward to other flavors and want to pair with a lunch there as well. The sole ingredient in this herbal tea is lavender petals, sourced from the French Riviera. The deep blue hue has an intense floral taste and captivating aroma, all while providing a calming effect on the body when smelled and sipped.
It has been an exciting two and a half years since I’ve taken over – while keeping the heart and soul the same, we’ve been able to grow our business more than double, which is so exciting for us all to see. While my grandparents opened this in their late fifties, I was just ten years old at the time. I helped lay a 110-year-old brick walkway, washed dishes, bussed tables and eventually became a server in high school and college. I decided the “family business” wasn’t for me, as much as I loved the hospitality aspect of it – I wanted an office job where I could count on a steady paycheck and have good benefits. I graduated from college with an accounting degree, joined a major CPA firm, and moved up the ranks… but something was missing. Embarking on this journey has been a remarkable opportunity, one that I recognize not everyone gets to experience.
Daily Menu
In addition to the delicious food and beverages, the ambiance and decor make this experience especially memorable. We are also walking distance to the Mission, as well as the train depot. Upon reopening post-shutdown, a noticeable surge in activity was witnessed. People were eager to reconnect with others, and The Tea House became a cherished venue for such gatherings. The journey of nurturing and sustaining a business of this nature demands a hands-on approach.
We bring the exquisite flavors and charm of The Tea House straight to your occasion. As I got older, I really enjoyed hosting events for people, having friends over for dinner, and I knew that I wanted to do something in regards to the hospitality business, but wasn’t sure how I would make money at it. I know that with continued growth, we will be able to hire more staff and reinvest into the property that creates a really special ambiance.
Rooibos Teas
As you step onto our property, you'll be captivated by the beautifully restored 1911 cottage, wraparound verandah, and lush gardens. We also have other food here too – a weekend brunch has become a favorite lately (complete with mimosas and Bloody Mary’s), as well as our entrée salads and hot entrees. As we are in a restored cottage, we have several different rooms inside, but my favorite place is our wraparound verandah that looks out onto the gardens.

A Tale of Two Friends
They were captivated by the experience and it soon became their favorite spot for special occasions. Arianna then shared this delightful experience with her mother Claudia and sisters Shannon and Lisa, together enjoying the haven for quiet conversations, where afternoons slipped away unnoticed. The Ceylon black tea fulfilled my expectation of a great tasting tea and it surpasses the store bought teas on taste and quality.
Wonderful hot or iced, this tea is enhanced with a touch of honey to further bring out the blackberry notes. An English favorite, this full-bodied black tea has malty and oaky undertones while maintaining a perfect balance of lively character and subtle copper highlights. And if you're looking for that perfect gift, look no further than TEAque boutique by The Tea House on Los Rios. Our delightful gift shop features our famous selection of loose leaf teas, tea inspired gifts, and garden curiosities ensuring you'll find something truly unique and memorable. It's not just the food that makes our tea house special—it's the enchanting atmosphere we've created. With romantic, intimate, and classy vibes, our venue is perfect for a memorable date night or a special celebration.
A blend of three types of cinnamon, orange peel and sweet cloves give this black tea an assertive yet welcoming flavor and amazing aroma. Over the past six and a half years, the journey has been an exhilarating one, woven with challenges and triumphs. Anchored in the core ethos of the establishment – Building Relationships, One Cup at a Time – we’ve grown the business while respecting tradition and embracing innovation. Yet, above all, we continue to craft enchanting moments for every guest gracing our business, sculpting memories that people treasure for years to come.

Refreshing green tea with a perfect balance of grassy notes and subtle sweetness. Delightful aroma and vibrant color make it a soothing choice for tea lovers. I’m so in love with this tea, it has bold fruity flavors while still being surprisingly smooth.
It opens the doors for meaningful interactions, shared insights, and a collective drive toward excellence. Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us? Throughout my journey of taking over the family business, I’ve been privileged to learn a multitude of valuable lessons.
At The Tea House on Los Rios, we’ve redefined the traditional afternoon tea experience to create a unique and memorable culinary journey. While afternoon tea might not be a common practice in American culture, it’s our passion and specialty. We’ve carefully curated an experience that transports our guests to a world of elegance and charm.
An infusion of Madagascar vanilla lends a smooth and silky finish to the bright flavors of the cup. A favorite among many Tea House guests, this black tea is blended with dried peaches and full-flavored apricots, and then infused with essential oils to enhance the delicately smooth flavor profile. A deep, intense black currant aroma and flavor comes from the dried berries themselves, blended with a Ceylon black tea base, to give a fruity and bright flavor profile to this medium-bodied tea.
Because it’s caffeine free, I’m able to enjoy a cup or two throughout the day. Rooibos is combined with rosehips, elderberries and blueberries, and finished with fragrant lavender, creating a floral and fruity bouquet that will entice all your senses. This slightly sweet tea can be taken with milk, but delicious as is. Sweet, creamy and chocolaty, this bright, bold tea has a velvety smooth finish, with an intoxicating fragrance to go with it. The Tea House on Los Rios has a rich history rooted in the vision of the Niccola family, who sought to create a haven away from the pressures of modern life.
